Triinu Jürves / Kaarel Kütas “PINDPÕNEVUS”

A surface is a surface because there is something else underneath. Multiple layers of shape and density changing overgrown and flowing being. A flicker that bubbles deeper or lies completely still. And you can’t take it away from the surface, without the rest, it doesn’t exist. Exciting.

On Saturday, April 27 at 3 p.m., the exhibition “PINDPÕNEVUS” by Triinu Jürves and Kaarel Kütas will be opened in Pärnu City Gallery’s Artists’ House, you are invited to the opening of the exhibition!

A surface is a surface because there is something else underneath. Multiple layers of shape and density changing overgrown and flowing being. A flicker that bubbles deeper or lies completely still. And you can’t take it away from the surface, without the rest, it doesn’t exist. Exciting.

There are three layers in the exhibition – expressive coded paintings based on Triinu Jürves’ personal experiences, objects put together with the peasant tenderness of Kaarel Kütas, and an installation created as a joint creation, which visualizes a transformation that is difficult to notice, which the eye cannot distinguish.

The authors are almost opposites in their artistic practices – a systemic conceptual-minimalist steeped in culture and an impulsive poetic savage shot out of Non Grata’s bosom – but it turns out that they are still moving in the same direction, just in different layers. The end result is at once personal and general, direct and allegorical.

Even if it all remains just a refreshing game in the safe laboratory of the art world, perhaps the exhibition can also point to the wider possibility hidden in the coexistence of different ways of thinking.

Triinu Jürves (b. 1974) is an interdisciplinary artist, curator and exhibition designer with a background in painting. She works with collage, objects and installations that could be described as (sur)real comments on the processes around us. Appeared at exhibitions both as part of the art group -> Noolegrupp (with Villem Jahu) and individually. Actively works in the self-initiated gallery Metropol. Triinu Jürves is an experienced art teacher who possesses the arsenal of classical depiction, but her bread and butter is the teaching system of contemporary art, which she considers her artistic practice, because both fields are combined into one logical whole.

Kaarel Kütas (b. 1981 in Pärnu) is a multidisciplinary freelance artist and curator who solves global problems and spiritual dilemmas with poetic peasant wisdom in his work. His main means of expression are action art, performative installations and objects, as well as acting as one of the leaders of the Metropol gallery. Kaarel Kütas highly values cooperation with other artists and groups, actively creates broad-based artistic outputs for himself, his colleagues and the audience. In everyday life, Kaarel works in the field of national defense.
