On Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m., the exhibition “Observations” of the Vaasa Artists’ Association will be opened in Pärnu City Gallery’s Artists’ House (Nikolai 27).

This year, the Pärnu City Gallery celebrates Pärnu Day with artists from Pärnu’s sister cities. The joint exhibition of artists from Pärnu, Jelgava and Šiauliai “B3: Looking back” will be opened in the Town Hall Gallery of Pärnu City Gallery, and the exhibition “Observations” of Vaasa Artists’ Association will be opened in the Artists’ House of Pärnu City Gallery.
The relationship between the twin cities of Vaasa and Pärnu began as early as 1956, and the relationship between the cities has led to many cultural exchanges and economic ties throughout the ages. The Pärnu-Suomi club operates in Pärnu and the Vaasa-Pärnu club in Vaasa for the same purpose.
Vaasa Artists’ Association was founded in 1953 and has the goal of promoting professional visual arts and uniting artists in Vaasa and its surroundings. The association acts as a front organization for visual art and its creators, trying to bring artists and art audiences closer together. The Vaasa Artists’ Association has 70 members and has been operating since the beginning of this year in the Vaasa Art Building, where they have two exhibition spaces and an art gallery. Vaasa Art Building is located in the heart of Vaasa, in the city hall building.
The exhibition of Vaasa’s artists in the Pärnu City Gallery is called “Observations”. The works of 13 different artists are exhibited at the exhibition with sculptures, paintings, photographs and textiles.
Everyone looks at their environment in a different way and interprets what they see and experience through art. For some, the observations are concrete and based on realism, while others experience the world more spiritually, through dreams and imagination. The works in the exhibition describe the personal observational experiences of each artist.
Participants in the exhibition: Alli Alho, Paula Blåfield, Tuija Arina-Sundelin, Helena Saari, Stina Koskinen, Aki Koskinen, Mari Törmä, Mira Roivainen, Anne Storm, Jaana Valtari, Lana Haga, Lars Höglund and Kimmo Laitinen.
The exhibition will remain open until April 20, 2024.
The exhibition is supported by the city of Pärnu.
